@spinchange - thanks for posting that letter. I study this stuff with a passion and that is one I haven't seen yet. That is just insanely scary. Violates FCRA, 4th amendment...just crazy. Big three have to list inquiry anytime someone looks at your info. Wow. Just WOW!

If all of these unconstitutional search tactics were only used for terror suspects then why would there be a problem getting a court order. In all of the previous years when administrations have sought courd orders for such things as wiretaps they were only refused one a few times. So why would you want to bypass the court? Because they are targeting people where they could never get such an order - maybe because of weak or non-existant probable cause. Also, without any kind of oversight, who'se to say that they are just targeting terror suspect. You don't think that maybe it expands into political opponents, outspoken celebrities, environmental groups, favors for the religious right and big business buddies (industrial espionage, intimidation...) and anyone else that might stand in the way of Bush and the right's agenda. If you think it's not happening, think again. That's exactly what the FBI did under Hoover - when there was no oversight. I think that in 50 years we'll start to uncover some of the real tactics these bastards were employing.
