do we really have freedom of speech here in the US, yes we do on the paper, but not on the mass media, few people own the mass media, and the last time i checked, NPR and PBS were afraid budget cuts if they broadcast anything against BUSH, republican, etc. so that is the kind freedom of speech we have. if there were a network like RCT here in the US that rants bush everytime, you would able to watch it because no cable or dish provider would carry their programs, or they will be called un-american.

and people on Digg call Bush a fascist.

Alright, so Chavez is turning out to be rather much of a dictator, but that isn't any reason for the US to try to eliminate him. He isn't killing people, he is against drug trafficers, he isn't threatening the US or any other country except the "we won't sell you oil" angle. The upper classes in his country may be getting shafted and he may be a bit guilty of taking advantage of mob fanaticism, but as far as I know that's all. Given the USA's history of deposing leaders of other countries though, he probably doesn't have much time left.

I have doubts that our media can be objective about chavez...we have no real idea unless we on there on the ground.... what is the life of a poor to middle class person like under chavez..

While this is regrettable, Chavez had to do it, the americans have been actively trying to subvert the democratic process in his country, by doing this, Chavez is fighting the american war against democracy.

>So lib, once again, tell me who is going to decide whether a media outlet is telling the truth or not?I don't think you care about the truth at all. It is obvious to any impartial observer that RCTV and most of the corporate media in Venezuela has lied and manipulate in order to topple a democratically elected and majority supported government.

If you are ill-informed enough to say that Hitler was a socialist leader, then it's little wonder that you consider Chavez to be "totally against freedom", being him the first Venezuelan leader to give its people the tools (education, health, basic care) to exercise their freedom.

Oh look, another REAL authoritarian dictator that the Bush-haters rush to defend. How quaint.

Thanks for telling the truth about this capitalist TV channel. People who criticize Chavez's decision should be forced to watch this channel for 24 hours. A channel that supported a coup against democracy, with the new dictator claiming that all democratic institutions had to be suspended for years for the good of Venezuela. Fortunately he lasted only 3 days. One less fascist TV channel in Venezuela. Democrats rejoice!

This is so deliciously ironic! A bunch of united-staters commenting about how such a dictator Chavez is while Bushy Boy cares nothing about congress or what 90 % of the country thinks. Chavez was reelected with a landslide while Bush's both candidacies where shady at best. Chavez shuts down a TV station that was actively involved in shutting down the government channel during the attempted coup and he's a tyrant, while the US shuts down entire countries ( not just Iraq ) just to protect investors and it's A-OK! Sorry. . . i can only laugh at this.
