I built this circuit last night and did a test run with some half dead alkalines. I charged them for about 3 hours with no noticable adverse reactions, then I shut things down and went to bed. This morning I went to check things out and noticed the batteries had leaked really badly over the night. I'd be hesitant to use recharged alkaline batteries in my products, but as the article said, your results may vary :) Well written article.
