change.gov — Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Wow, not even sworn in and already shredding the Constitution!

"The United States is not a "team"."[boggle]I can't believe I just read that.My eyes are melting. Are you aware of our national motto, "E Pluribus Unum?" Google it, you might learn something.

Remember other government programs that start off "it's only this much we want from you" they start small and get bigger and bigger. Like the federal income tax for example. Just let them get their foot in the door. I do not want more government.

OMFG - he isn't even president yet and already he's pushing semi-communist crap down our throats!!!How widely covered will this be in the press? Will they see this as a GOOD thing?

How exactly does using my tax dollars to pay some college kid to change bed pans at an old folks home or hand out soup to homeless people help to fix our deteriorating infrastructure?

I disagree with those who think this is a bad thing and agree with those who think it is good.First, I'm sure this isn't going to 'force' anyone to be 'slaves'. I'm sure you'll be able to choose your level of involvement.Second, I think encouragement to help better one's country through initiatives like this by Obama is the perfect antidote to the disengagement of people from what's really going on. I believe that this disengagement is the reason Bush was able to dupe the general public for so long. Neocons fear a populace that is thinking and involved - just look at Karl Rove's stated philosophy.Hooray for the dawn of a new age of thinking and caring!

"by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free"Will someone here explain where, exactly, in this cut and paste (as opposed to the paraphrasing here), that it says people will be FORCED AGAINST THEIR WILL or REQUIRED to do this community service? It sounds like an opportunity for kids to make some money to help pay for college who may otherwise not have the opportunity. A goal and a mandate are not the same thing. A goal doesn't specify how it is going to come to be. A goal may or may not mean that it's going to be an unconstitutional requirement. If I missed something, PLEASE let me know. If that's the case, I'll be the first one up in arms. Otherwise, this is more garbage from bitter right wingers as opposed to anything rational.

Don't blame me that I didn't even vote at all, because it's not going to do me very good to cast a vote when more than half of the country is uneducated and prefer socialism to capitalism.

People were made to be free. Freedom will not create a perfect world. Just the best possible world. Freedom is the solution to the human condition. Obama tells you that if you give him power(that is, give up your power/freedom) he will fix all life’s problems for you. Which makes him either a fool or power hungry liar.
