with the security trying to be placed around airlines these days, i think this is one of the last things you want to try doing.the same concept here applies to printing out a barcode for a cheaper item and sticking that barcode on something less expensive and then trying to pay for that item using your new barcode. it's free, it's fast, it's easy .... IT'S ALSO STEALING!!!
I would not risk this. It could get you up to 5 years in prison. You see, the boarding pass is required at the security checkpoint. This means the boarding pass is a security document. Modifying or forging a boarding pass could be a violation of US CODE TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 47 > § 1001 which says, ..........(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry; shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.
Gee, that's great except for the non-lazy, responsible people who get online 24 hrs in advance and print out your boarding pass LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO!! What happens if 5 people do this and then the last 5 to get in group A aren't allowed on until B or C because they already had too many in A? This is no different than faking your line number at the post office, or taking someone else's reservation at a restaurant. Geez, if you want to get on the plane a whole 10 minutes earlier that badly, then just get on a frickin' computer the day before and check-in. You don't even have to be able to print the pass out. Just check in, pretend to print it by clicking the Print button, and then when you check your bags tell them your boarding pass didn't print and they will print it for you (good if you have to use something like an Apple store for Web access in another city). And yes, we have tried this many times and it works. As long as you have your ID and confirmation number, they can pull up your reservation.
@knightcrawler75SW seating is first-come, first-serve (no assigned seating). So, if you're one of the first to get on the plane, you'll get your choice of seat (exit row Window baby!)
Hear Hear. This post tells you how to commit a lame kind of fraud. This kind of thing is kind of like putting canadian cents in your rolls of pennies and then thinking you are a bad-ass. Marked as lame.
Just a word to the wise people dont do this. If you get caught the TSA and airport police are going to be making a trip to the gate. Its not worth the trouble and/or fines that you may suffer in the long run. To answer your questions it is falsifying a document and can be looked at as an attempt to gain unauthorized access to an aircraft regardless of the fact that you have been screened. If you change the letter on the boarding pass your number and group letter will still show up when they scan your pass. "Habbox" summed it up pretty good.
I have the ticket right in front of me with a nice A, I see no where on the html page or the ticket itself where it says that. I think I will enjoy my window seat.

@pkulak, your boyfriend (Joel) is an IDIOT, and cannot even fathom reality, so I suggest you go and comfort him.
