crunchgear.com— Over the past 24 hours there has been mass speculation, started by Gizmodo, about the iPhone being released on Monday. While that information isn’t precisely incorrect, it is exceedingly misleading.

I think he was implying that the iphone in particular is feminine, not the basic noun for phone. I used to try to make similar jokes when I started learning spanish, but they're only funny if you're always thinking in both languages at the same time and translating on the fly in your head, and once you get good at a language you just think directly in it, so these types of jokes don't really make sense any more.
"How do you figure out what sex a phone is?"ALL foreign (meaning non-french) words are masculine. In addition, it is not the "item" that is masculine or feminine, it is the word.
