blog.wired.com — Australia's official online censorship board's web page was offline Thursday, hours after hackers hijacked it to protest revelations the government was going to require ISPs to block public access to thousands of websites, many of which aren't obscene.

The internet is slowly starting to be censored and people are being discriminated against. For example: earlier today I tried to view a Youtube video and it said "This video is not available in your country". So much for Google's policy "Don't be evil". This "World Wide Web" will soon be a fantasy.

I know I don't need some *officials* to decide what my standards of obscene material is. I want to decide for myself. I think that if someone finds something offensive, then don't watch it or visit that site, etc. This is pretty much the equivalent of book banning. With this ability, the government can decide, subjectively, what the people can and cannot see. Knowledge is power, and that knowledge helps people make a better informed decision about things. People who know more might question authority. And that could be *disruptive* to the government's agenda. Or even lead to disobedience!!! They need *sheep* not citizens with their own opinions and thoughts. In my opinion, censorship should not exist in a truly free country. If Australia succeeds, are we next?
