devices.natetrue.com — Remove commercials from recorded TV quickly and easily. Open source app. Cbreak works by scanning every frame of a video file, taking note of any black frames in the video. It uses these frames to divide the video up into segments.

Wouldn't it be faster just to watch the commercials? How long would it take to re-encode the silly thing that you may not watch again?

There's a program that most of you have that does this already. Yep. Windows Movie Maker. I've used it to cut up episodes of 24 into chapters for VCD encoding and remove commercials.

Sounds like a great way of having legit online adertisers (who pay to have their commerical in certain online video clips) stop supporting sites because people are removing the commericials instead of watching them. Same goes for extensions/plug ins that block ads, all you are doing is hurting the people running the sites you like going to.

It would also be nice if there was software for automatically blanking the video window and muting its volume if a commercial were in play without the need to create an entirely new file. When a commerical is detected it would advance through the file quickly to find the end (the point where the regular programming resumes) and calculate the time difference for display or simply fast forward to that point (user setting for people who do/don't use this as time for a bathroom break).

What is this "reception" you speak of? I thought all the tv shows on bittorrent were already commercial free. Who watches broadcast? ;)

Does anybody one know of any similar tool for mp3 files? I listen to podcasted talk shows, but they usually come with embedded commercials (2-3 minutes streaks of commercials inside a 1 hour program for example).Of course, there are no blackframes in a mp3, so the method should be different indeed, I am more thinking about something like detecting a change in volume level / a change in the pitch of the voice / or swithcing from voice to music.I am not looking for a full studio like Goldwave, but a very simple tool "cBreak for mp3 files"
