according to Wikipedia (<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme),">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme),</a> the word "meme" was coined by Richard Dawkins, an ethnologist, in 1976.

Spro: Er, the second paragraph starts "The ethnologist Richard Dawkins coined the term ‘meme’. He shortened it from ‘mimeme’, which was Greek for ‘something imitated’." What's your point?

I believe spro's point is that the word "meme" has been around for a while, used in many contexts, and established as a word with a specific meaning that is being applied, as opposed to invented, in the case of the original entry. Clearly then, "meme" is not a made-up, "bulls**t term," but a word that helps to explain a phenomenon. So if willynilly is so intent upon being industrious he might consider focusing on those kinds of endeavours, instead of chucking around rude criticisms.
