gizmodo.com — In the hallway, if an employee walks slower than 5 meters every 3.6 seconds, an alarm and flashing lights are set off, reminding the poor startled worker that he's an inefficient waste of air. Even better (or worse), there's a sign on the floor in said hallways that reads, "Let's rush: If we don't, the company and world will perish."

Having been in the Infantry and served as a wildland firefighter as well a waiter, I'm well aware of the difference the right footware makes, and that many occupations call for prolonged standing. The guys in the cheap-o boots were in pain well before I even started to feel any trouble. That said, I'm still not buying Canon. The practices this management set in place are abusive. Consider the training losses for a revolving door compared coming in "under budget" and you might consider it not such a great idea.

So that's why their cameras suck."Hey Jim got the new specs for the next 5D?""err.. just repaint a Nikon D700, throw it down some stairs, and slap a Cannon logo on it.""But I'm too tired to paint it""ok just throw it down the stairs"Mystery solved.

That's why these types of jobs are are going overseas... where work actually gets done. Productivity is seen in US companies only when associated with procrastination.

it is all about balance.in countries like japan, the unions, if there're any, are too weak. in countries like us, the unions are kind of over-powered.

it is legal in japan, it seems. the local labor bureau in japan was informed about about this, but has not done anything about it.

i think you are being more misleading.did you see this in the original article?秩父工場内には,応接室など一部を除き,会議室にも,開発部門や管理部門のオフィスにもいすがない。もちろん,社長室にもないという。no chairs in meeting rooms, as well as offices of R&D department and management department. it is said that there's no chair in that guy's office (which, of course is a lie.)http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/dqnplus/imgs/2/8/28a ...
