C'mon, its childish to believe its only the French, just look at the US and many other countries where religion permeates most of the society and is used as a moral compass. The best you can expect in such countries is Orthothanasia, which is basically a 'DNR'. The problem is that, in spite of many doctors that would gladly help you end your suffering, they cant because their hands are tied by the law. To make matters worse is that if your doctor can't help you, and you really wanna end it and commit suicide, your life insurance gets thrown out of the window...
I do not understand the logic. Neither did the Dutch and Belgian legislators. These states have created very efficient control procedures and committees to avoid that. Legally I would argue that not allowing people to die peacefully when they are in such misery is abusive and contrary to the bill of Human Rights.
I think I was more disturbed by the fact that .....I think it was MSNBC, acutally blurred out her face in their pictures. That's much more of an insult, I think. It's like they decided that she was a monster and the public couldn't handle seeing her face.
This story ended tragically, but the cause of death never made it to [searchable] press. Has anyone heard how she went? It seems pertinent to the story. Like her story was tragic once but the lack of follow-up is a harmonic tragedy. What a shame.
I have to put in that i read she couldnt use morphine because of side effects. She went into a lot of treatment. Read a little before you comment on something you dont understand. I have to wonder if you even thought of her life going on after her pain had eased, if it could have been? She had no sense of taste, smell, or sight- being blind. Not to mention how hard society would be on her because of her disfigurement. I dont even want to go into your country bashing

The ability to selectively vocalize one's fleeting thoughts is a trait of psychological maturity.
