Not at all surprising to me. When I hear something I really like, I DO buy more CD's AND Tee-Shirts, etc...If I never hear the stuff, no amount of hype can get me to buy it!
It makes total sense to me. I was completely fed up with buying music in the '90s because for every record I liked I'd end up buying a dozen that I didn't. The labels were successful because they were selling a lot of music that people didn't want. So I just stopped buying music.Downloading gave me a way to discover new music, and find out if I'd like it first. I buy a lot now. I buy more in a few months than I did during the entire 1990s. And nothing that I buy is a disappointment.I know the RIAA disapproves of this, though, so I don't download their music. That also means I don't buy their music, of course...I hardly know it even exists. I can see how they wouldn't want an environment that puts indie labels on equal footing.

That may be, but would you buy them if you couldn't download them for free?
