newsfactor.com — Apple is already gearing up for a major marketing campaign for the holidays, and if they're able to ramp up demand, and then deliver the system when they say it will be delivered, it could trump Microsoft in a way that Apple's CEO Steve Jobs would crow about for years.

Then those people obviously have never tried OS X. It's funny, MS is so inferior when it comes to OS design, but people still believe it's a better option than Apple or Linux.Case in point: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4134446112378047444&q=vista+apple+os&hl=en

>OS X will never have more than a 4-7% market share as long as it's only available on higher priced Apple hardware. Don't be quite so sure of yourself.....HERE IS A NEWS FLASH for skeptics like yourself.Did you know that APPLE NOW HAS 12% of the LAPTOP MARKET..... first that market, then the deskop market.I also predict that apple could become THE home computer....it will have to take over the home market WAY before the business market. "people" can change platforms much easier than enterprises.

Why is it hard for people to realize that there is no competition. Apple will remain single digit market. Apple isn't going against microsoft. There going against Microsoft, Toshiba, Dell, HP, NEC, Sony, and every PC manufacture out there that make up 98% of the market.

Straight-on, though Apple is now pretty much also the defacto creative setup, at least for film- you're either using Final Cut on a Mac or Avid for PC.Will Apple probably steal market share from Windows machines? You bet, though delays, DRM and feature stripping from Vista is still unlikely to sway massive amounts of users to the OS X platform. Still, Apple can take advantage of any little stumbling block of Microsoft. Will the world turn upside down come OS 10.5? No. But that doesn't mean some change won't happen.

Excuse me, but why are you reading said news, then? If you don't seem to care about this article, why read it, then make a useless comment, which in no way adds to the content of this forum. Even those who are 'flaming' OS X bring some kind of reasonable argument to the table. Please, try to keep on the subject?

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. Almost everyone who gets a new Intel Mac is going to want to run Bootcamp. To do that they're going to have to buy Windows whether they use it or not. So MS will most likely be selling more copies of Windows than ever. And this hurts Microsoft how? Apple should just go into the hardware design business.

"One of the agreements between Apple and Microsoft is to use Microsoft's Internet browser, giving them a considerable advantage over Netscape, their advancing competitor."IE isn't even made for mac anymore. also, if you're going to make claims that Bill Gates owns half of apple, you might want to check your facts, and not twist the words of a 9 year old publication.

This debate is so old and stupid. Let me give the end-all.Anyone should know that if Apple has any hope/change of being a real head to head competitor with Windows it would need to make OSX run on any old PC hardware the way Windows does. Apple knows this, you and I know this. Apple does not and will not do this. Why? Because they don't want to! They don't want to compete head to head with Windows. They like their niche market. It makes them tons of money and provides for the needs of many who need or strongly want an alternative to Windows. The only push apple has for upping it's market-share is to be in a comfortable spot. A few years back when it slipped down to < 3% that was not comfortable. They don't want to take over, but they do want to be assured of not disappearing overnight as well! So stop it with the debate. Frankly I want Apple to get to it's plateau in the market, and then stop, just as it intends. I like being of the minority here, and I don't want everyone and their mother's to use OSX. Apple has the manpower and the time needed to absolutely perfect the things it does now. Growing the company another 30% could cause untold amounts of damage. There is a slight truth to the "market-share myth", but only slight. If OSX were to become 50% of the market tomorrow it would not matter, it would still be the Fort Knox it is today. However if you start stressing development of OSX, and growing Apple to such a size that it is forced to become a whole other entity, this would cause damage to OSX in the end. This is the only way market-share would effect it. To be a bit corny, remember the Apple 1984 commercial? Of course you do. When they say they don't want to be like "1984" they are of course referring to the giant IBM. What they are saying is they want to remain smaller, creative, manageable! And they still want exactly that as far as I can see.
