mercurynews.com— The Prius, Wozniak said, handled great at 104. And that wasn't the first time he reached the speed that sends shudders down my I-like-60-mph spine.

Being a prius owner (stop laughing) I can confirm the car is capable of 104mph :-) NOT that i condone that sort of driving and if you find a hill you *might* go a bit over that..........say 110 :-)
The part of the California Vehicle code regarding speeding:22348. (c) A vehicle subject to Section 22406 shall be driven in a lanedesignated pursuant to Section 21655, or if a lane has not been sodesignated, in the right-hand lane for traffic or as close aspracticable to the right-hand edge or curb. When overtaking andpassing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, the drivershall use either the designated lane, the lane to the immediate leftof the right-hand lane, or the right-hand lane for traffic aspermitted under this code. If, however, specific lane or lanes havenot been designated on a divided highway having four or more clearlymarked lanes for traffic in one direction, a vehicle may also bedriven in the lane to the immediate left of the right-hand lane, unless otherwise prohibited under this code. This subdivision doesnot apply to a driver who is preparing for a left- or right-hand turnor who is in the process of entering into or exiting from a highwayor to a driver who is required necessarily to drive in a lane otherthan the right-hand lane to continue on his or her intended route.
My Chevy Blazer ('96) is governed at 98. I'm sure I could push it well over 100 if I took the governor out, but it's just not worth it. 95 MPH for a long drive on an empty highway (like when I go through Vermont to get to Montreal) is nice, but I can't see going much faster.
Wonder if he has the TRD (Toyota Racing Division) struts and springs, along with Tom's upper strut, lower front and rear braces, without which the Prius is pretty unstable!
I actually am quite happy with my lil Prius :-) It is actually a company car, and the way the taxing works for company cars in the UK is based on CO2 emmissions so the Prius was the "cheapest" car to own! I can't really say anything bad about it, the steering feels a little non-responsive compared to some other cars I've driven but around town (especially in central London) it's a joy to drive. The electric motor has some good pulling power making the car surpisingly nippy. Combine this with some excellent brakes and it can make for some fun driving :-) I often enjoy thrashing it down some of the country lanes near where I live to relieve the stress of the working day!! On the motorways if I keep to sensible speeds (upto about 80mph) I can usually see 50+mpg and even with a heavy foot around town I haven't got below about 35mpg!
That is ignoring most of the aerodynamic surfaces on the car that deliberately create drag to keep the car planted on the road/track. Even the mirrors on the Veyron are downforce-acting. If it only took 576hp to get to 240mph, supercars wouldn't top out around 200-210mph, as most do. The Zonda F, Enzo, SLR, Konigsegg, etc. all make around 550-600hp, and barely crack 200mph.

Being that I'm in my late 20s, have a well-paying job and haven't lived at home since I was 17...no, I don't mean my moms Yaris.

the Prius battery does more harm to the environment than a Cherokee. If you knew what they had to do to make that battery your jaw would drop
