cbsnews.com — Most users of digg and like sites know how messed up these people are. Its time to do something about it. Its time to unleash the internet on these nutjobs. Don't do anything illegal, but make your voice heard. There are too many of us for them to drown us out.

@eggoApparently you didn't understand my last post. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Yes, they can say whatever they want. What they shouldn't have the right to do and intentionally slander innocent victims and cause tremendous undo grief to their families and friends by picketing the victims funerals and calling them godless fag-loving whores, etc. This isn't about what they're saying, it's about when and where they are assembling to say it.

Definitely a good, legal, and nonviolent way to set them straight. I don't think they deserve any attention as it is, but if they're gonna be there, this is the way to get rid of them.

This was from eggo:"@jspegeleOh, I see... Speech is free so long as you don't "cross the line". Where is that line, precisely? who decides what is crossing the line, you? The fact is, These assh**es have a right to do what they are doing. It is the same right that allows you to speak out against the government without suffering for it. The same right that ensures that you can picket, protest, scream and yell to get your message heard. The same right that protects you, me and that motherf**ker Fred Phelps. I will not sacrifice that right because of these idiots.@aloserWhat they are doing is despicable, yes. Harassment, no. They are peacefully spreading their hate-filled bulls**t, and they have that right."Eggo, read the last paragraph of that article. In Virginia, that kind of speech is not protected because it violates a disorderly conduct statute.

“The evidence is they were not Christian. God does not do that to his servants,” Phelps-Roper said. “You don’t need to look any further for evidence those people are in hell.” God does not do that to his servants? Those people are in Hell? I guess Phelps-Roper hasn't finished the book yet. You must know the one, wherein God's Son is crucified by an angry mob. Boy is Roper going to be surprised by that chapter. These people don't need our anger and venom; they need our sympathy and love. How do you think Roper would respond if invited to sit with a grieving family and serve as a pallbearer for one of the heathens?

@eggo Although I appreciate your Voltaire reference, your point on the hypocrisy is, well...THANKS, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS! duh. I'm going to practice my 1st Amendment right and say whatever the f**k I want...so all I have to say is: 1. These people are claiming to be Christians, and yet they are being terribly insensitive to poor, grieving individuals. What about do unto others? Somebody, please, protest one of their funerals, one of their weddings, one of their births of a child, or any other personal event of theirs, and then watch them claim they're martyrs that suffer for their beliefs. 2. These whack jobs need to get laid. Someone should raid their homes and steal their porn stashes (obviously, stacks of Sears catalog undergarment pages!)3. They are the very type of weirdos that drove me away from my church. 4. Yes, they have a RIGHT to protest (thank god, for that), but don't they, as Christians, also have a charge to be good role models of what they preach? or are they only loving people on Sundays between the hours of 10 and 11:15am?5. And how are homosexuality and a victim of crazy Cho related? They are worse than the $$$-hungry media in their quest to capitalize on the murders.6. Finally, they should look for better ways to serve God. I suggest they attend the funeral--not to protest homosexuality and other "sins of the flesh," but rather as humble, nonconfrontational, loving pillows for grieving hearts.leggo my eggo

PEOPLE ARE SO DUMB
skeetervtSep 20, 2007
Drowning the Phelps Cult wackos and swarming them with your opposing opinions is a colossal waste of time and energy. You cannot argue with religious fanatics; they're brainwashed in their beliefs and NOTHING you can say to them will change their minds -- on the contrary, it will only REINFORCE their beliefs. Under those circumstances, your only recourse is to DISCREDIT them before others -- Make it abundantly clear to everyone else that their ideas are crackpot and that they cannot be taken seriously. .

Indeed, the Southern Baptist Convention EXPELLED Westboro in 1991 because of Fred Phelps "extremist" interpretations of Scripture and "cultish" Phelps family-only membership were too much even for the right-wing fundamentalists who have dominated the SBC leadership since 1979.
