blogs.zdnet.com — A new feature for Gmail being rolled out right now allows you to call contacts from within your Gmail account. Currently you must be signed into the Google Talk application for it to show up, but hopefully soon the feature will be available to users who don't have the instant messenger installed.

Technically its not a big deal. just linking the two appllications(gmail/google talk). Tomorrow you can have google calendar popping up in google talk.Yeah the challenge would be to have just a web based/browser based gmail voip service.

If google was a drug it would be good for your health and make you feel good, too. And probably be as addicting as crack.

@willcode4beer:Google and Apple will never merge. Unlike Apple, Google realizes that all the money's in the software business, there's no money in the hardware business (it's better to be Microsoft than be Gateway), and they certainly wouldn't want Apple screwing up their bottom line. If Google wanted to get in to the OS business, they'd make their own. Like Apple, they'd take an existing code base (Linux, obviously), and add their own proprietary wrapper (i.e. - they'd extend WINE to the point that you could run 90% of Windows apps natively, and make the all the Linux underpinnings unobtrusive.) It would take them 3-years to get out of beta, but that wouldn't matter. They have 15% marketshare in a matter of days. They will probably never do any of that either, because, like Apple, the OS market in general a sinking ship compared to Google's current business model. They don't care what OS you run, just as long as all you do with it is connect to the internet and use their services.

Everyone seems to disagree with you, but seriously chocolate is pretty gross. You guys should only digg that down if you actually enjoy dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is just sugar and milk with a little chocolate in there. Milk chocolate isn't what chocolate tastes like, much like drinking coffee that isn't black is not at all what coffee tastes like. Grow up and stop adding s**t to all your food guys!
