cfhtracker.info— Leo's Canadian Call For Help torrents... Kinda a taste of what TechTV used to be like for all you youngins out there...

Granted, he does appear to have some limited knowledge about mainly windows related things. Such as how to add an attachment to an outlook message, or watermark a word document. When asked anything beyond this sort of thing he does a very bad job filling time while he waits for an answer in his ear piece.
It almost sounds like you're agreeing with me. "I always find it amzing how anyone who owns a comuputer suddenly thinks they know everything - send an e-mail attachment, edit a graphic, and your an instant expert. Idiot!"Leo Laporte seems precisely like this type of "expert."I'll concede that i have not seen a lot of old TSS nor have I seen much of the old call for help. So yes, I am ignorant of years of Leo you americans have been exposed to. But seriously, watch some of the canadian episodes. They're horrible.
I agree with 200iso, and I did see some of the slightly older TSS, and Leo has always been "the dumb one" but thats not inherently bad. TV needs people who don't know a lot to ask the dumb questions, but the problem with Call For Help (Canada) is that Leo is the main guy, and the co hosts aren't exactly all that bright either. The guy always seems intimidated and unconfident, and I always get a creepy vibe coming from Leo towards her. So thats why the show fails, Leo needs a smart, well spoken co-host, like Patrick Norton to be any good.
Well if we're bitching about the other 2 hosts of the show instead of Leo, then that's a different story. They're...um...at their peak potential on television. I cringe when the girl introduces the show, because it's so unnatural. Anyway, Leo is awesome. The end.
I've watched all of the CFH episodes from Canada. Having done so, I can tell you that Leo is the master of his game. He is the perfect combo of tech knowledge and TV personality. He knows how to play to an audience and he knows an extremely broad range of tech. Talk to him in person sometime as I have and you'll know he isn't fed his information through an ear piece.Andy and Amber are great co-hosts as well. I'll take them over Cat Schwartz any day.Of course we'd all like to see Leo team up with Patrick again. ;-)Kevin Rose? I feel bad for him being stuck in that disaster known as G4.
This is the guy that fought to host a Linux vs. BSD show on TechTV's the Screen Savers - pfff 'Windows questions only'!That said, I returned my Canadian digital cable box when the US side dropped the TechTV part of it's name. For the record: RIGHT NOW Leo is in Toronto meeting with fellow podcasters.
Quote of NotIan"I think you need a Canadian to really do a Canadian show right"Guess what you moron... Leo is Canadian! He isn't dumb. He just tries to explain things as simple as he can so that some of us can understand it better.Unfortunately some stereotype people like you actually think he is less intelligent. That’s the idea. People like it.
Yeah, Leo is really Canadian, being born in New York (IMDB) and residing currently in Sonoma County, California, (Wikipedia) makes him really Canadian... I guess I'm a moron!"...some stereotype people like you actually think..." You're referring to me as a vague stereotyoe? What stereotype, that doesn't make any sense at all. If you meant, that some people like me stereotype people, and think he is less intelligent" fine, sure.Maybe he is smarter than he acts on TV, I don't know. Like I said, my problem with him is he's a knob, not that he doesn't know anything.
NotIan, you can always try calling the show and asking more high tech questionsyourself. It think the point others here have been trying to make, is that Leo has spenthis career trying to develop a persona that is technically competent, but stilldown to earth enough to appeal to a wide audience as a human being, not asupergeek. If that seems like a knob to you, that is an opinion you are entitled to. The rest of us see someone who has figured out how to keep a job explaining thetechnologies he likes to the masses that actually help make it affordable. And he has figured out how to get paid for doing just that for almost twodecades now. I don't idolize Mr. Laporte, but I do try to recognize and respect hisongoing involvment in the positive promotion of technology. You come across as an idiot for your claim that "Leo has always been "the dumb one"",to a group of people that have seen Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose and others becomethe "well-spoken" hosts that they were at least partly due to his influence, example, and most of all support.

I just think Leo's a good host. It's common knowledge he is not l33t, or whatever it is you think you are, but he's still a damn good host.
