edition.cnn.com — It is not the strongest nor the smartest species that survive, Charles Darwin once said, "but the one most responsive to change."Amid the menagerie of brightly colored and well-camouflaged creatures on display at the new California Academy of Sciences, it may be the building itself that best illustrates Darwin's assertion.

I used to frequent the old California Academy of Science museum when I was a child living in San Francisco. It still is the best museum/aquarium I've ever been too. I miss it fondly and when I tried to go back several years ago, it was closed. Now that I no longer travel to California when visiting my parents, as they have moved, I am quite depressed that I will never see this new version of my favorite childhood memory.

The California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco has its own website. Tour the layout using the floor plan:http://www.calacademy.org/academy/exhibits/floor_p ...I personally like the Penguin webcams, now live (Wide View, Underwater cam, & pam's penguincam):http://www.calacademy.org/webcams/penguins/The academy of sciences houses the world-famous Steinhart Aquarium, and the world's largest all-digital planetarium, the Morrison Planetarium, the 4-story indoor rainforest:http://www.calacademy.org/academy/exhibits/
