earthobservatory.nasa.gov — Northwest of Los Angeles, the Day Fire was churning out a thick, snake-like plume of smoke on September 17, 2006. The human-caused fire started on September 4 in mixed brush and scattered timber in the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests and the Sespe Wilderness. As of September 18, the 60,589-acre fire was only about 15% contained.

Kind of makes you want to stay inside until the fire clears so you don't have to breath that stuff. But I work at a grocery store and when you exit the store the fire is behind you so I'm always surprised when I turn around with carts and seeing a big cloud of smoke like a bomb went off or something, but it's the fire. But lately during the sunset hours it has been more surreal to see everything in orange, the landscape, guess the fire is getting closer.

Woah that little fire to the east was right near where I live. What a trip to see that. Puny in comparison however.

Look at that, it even spells a C for California. Not to mention, I guess all those game designers have been right! The ocean DOES repeat the texture/waves after a while.

Why is california always on fire? Is it supposed to be like that?

It would sure seem that way, though it really only happens about once/year.

I am in Poway, CA right now kind of near Espola Road and another fire just started randomly... I've been helping out the neighbors brings hoses up the hill to water down the brush and houses nearby. Hopefully Poway won't go down in flames! (I just got a mandatory evacuation call)The air is harsh like glass and its very smoky outside. Cover up your face!
