You're right, but there's no indication aside from this flawed "preliminary report" that a machine gun was used. It is much more likely that it was a single-shot rifle chambered in .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun, as that was the original usage of the cartridge). Ignorant sensationalist journalism strikes again.
Can someone please tell me wtf is the purpose of killing of endangered species...food doesn't count. Im sorry but you can go around killing endangered tigers for "cultural" reasons or otherwise (someone should really let China know this) so why is the government even allowing this in the first place? No disrespect but...find a new tradition that doesn't involve offing endangered species. It may have been hunky dory 100 years ago but things change, deal with it. You can't be respecting nature if you are helping the extinction of one of its incredible inhabitants.
To add to his point, which is correct, most endangered species that are being hunted for "cultured" purposes didn't get to be endangered because of these "cultural" hunting. These endangered species got to be endangered because of mass hunting by a "civilized" country for sports, and food, or otherwise. When the number got so low because of these huntings, they put a ban on hunting, causing tribes that rely exclusively on these huntings to be s**t out of luck. Double standards anyone?
