startribune.com — On an 11-0 vote Monday, Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) members voted to crack down on drivers refusing service, making Minnesota the first place in the country to decide how to treat Muslim cabbies who decline to transport alcohol-toting riders on religious grounds. Drivers who refuse riders will face 30-day to two year suspensions.

If you do not tolerate taxi driver prhobition, than ride a different taxi. Do not force taxi driver to conform. This country - after all - is built on free market.

@ dyo1"Also ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) the largest Muslim organization in North America has a female president. Please take your biases and one-sided views elsewhere."So what should we take from the fact that the ISNA held a seminar at their annual convention on how to properly beat a woman (link and quote below)? What does it say about Islam and Muslims that "the largest Muslim organization in North America" instructs on how to physically harm women?Don't take my word for it, go look at the ISNA's website: http://www.isna.net/conferences/annualconvention/program.html< Sunday, 11:00-12:30 pm Room 22 Session 9G: “...And Beat them Lightly”: An Analysis and In-Depth Discussion of Verse 4:34 This session will discuss the following: understanding the context of revelation (asbaab al nuzuul) for this verse. Emphasis will be focused on understanding the correct meaning of the verse, with specific attention given to the words qiwamah, nushuz, and daraba as well as to understand how this verse is to be applied as a protection for women, not as an abuse. @dogstarI don't think that makes them any more or less American than yourself. Creating separate spheres of life based on religion was a favorite pre-occupation of Nazis. Let's not suggest something similar in America.

@hamobuThe reason priests don't marry gays is because that's the policy of their church. Some churches DO choose to marry gays e.g. the United and Episcopalian churches. However, priests are supposed to follow the guidelines their employer lays out, not whatever they feel like doing. Similarly, if the cab company makes an official policy of not taking drunk people (which would be really bad for business mind you) then the cab drivers can refuse drunk drivers. If not, they should follow the policies of their employer and not place their religion above their source of employment.

@shakoorhI lived in the UK for five years, and believe me the respect didn't come from the Muslims. But I do know this, if you refused a fair on religious belief you'd be looking for a new job that day.
