cnn.com — In a recent post on his Web site, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor exulted: "I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different, and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit."

They're still giving their music away for free. They're selling a bunch of their artwork and stuff. That's totally optional. They promised to give away their music for free, and that's what they are doing. That's the promise they made, and they're keeping it. So what's the problem?

And the tens of thousands who've had to fork over a couple of grand too.Reality is if you're sharing their IP and you're sitting in the US you face an increasing chance of consequences. Every other person they sue just brings them one closer to yourself.

Because I'm a handsome,54-year-old garage metal drummer/lyricist/singer,I want to start a record label of othergood-looking older metal lords who, like me,want to join their first band.I believe this venture could be lucrativebecause it uses some of the "boy band" principles, with the "boys," of course, being much older and playing in-stuments.However,I'm short on funds,so I'd like to know if anyone on this thread would be able to advise me on how to get financial backing for my proposed label,as I believe investors could reap a handsome profit frommy company. Also,I'd like to post some of my lyrics for any interested musicians.

Trent can sustain on his own because he's made a name for himself and for Nine Inch Nails. He did that with the help of the record company.
