reviews.cnet.com — Now that Boot Camp finally provides a baseline for a true head-to-head contest of Apple hardware vs. PC hardware, we went out and bought a 2.0GHz MacBook Pro last night. Then dug up some good PC competitors, one of which has almost identical specs. This morning, we started testing. Here's what we found...

These are the same assh**es who compared XP Photoshop on the MBPro to Photoshop through ROSETTA.As usual, CNET is lame and their testing/writing is abysmal. No digg.

Right, that's pretty weird...How did the Acer guys do that considering they are almost identical systems (other than the RAM speed and HDD size)

It is not necessarily true Apple's hardware is superior. It is true Apple picks and chooses the best hardware components to optimize their computers and the OSs performance. A closed platform. Which used to be considered Apple's biggest failing. But, now that Microsoft has had such a difficult time writing Vista, it doesn't look so much like a failing. Apple released its' 64 bit desktop OS in 2000. (Server version was released in 1999, I think). Apple does not have to develop for millions of hardware configurations like Microsoft. Which gives Apple the ability to be more progressive, more creative, and ensures the hardware and their OS will play nice together.

My powerbook (which I hate) is made in China, not exactly the place for "superior" hardware. I use a PC laptop now.- Wintel for games and office compatibilitiy with outlook & office- Linux for serving requests and programming non-windows apps (I ssh into this using my wintel laptop or mac doesn't make a difference)- Mac for home decor?eh... competition is good.

The GPU (ie Radeon X1600) is more important. VRAM is not usually a determining factor. It seems to me that driver support is the biggest determining factor in these comparisons. Especially because notebook video drivers are not well kept by the card manufacturers and are many times maintained by the PC manufacturer(Dell, HP, etc.)

...because of course Dell is the only manufacturer of PC's? I hate Dell laptops too. Thinkpads, however, are another story. Then there are the Acer Ferarri laptops. Your whole argument is based on comparing Apple to...Dell? That's not comparing Apple PC's to non-Apple PC's. That's comparing one *company* to another *company*.
