rawstory.com — Suicide among veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq has been a problem of increasing seriousness. Veteran suicides now double non-vet suicides; 5000 veteran suicides can be expected this year. The Veterans Authority, who released those statistics, has promised to beef up its mental health services. A CBS study suggests the numbers may be far worse.

Surprise war sucks, sucks hard. If you are so bent on winning this war get your ass over there in the line of fire and defend this...well what ever it is they are supposed to be defending.

I can't imagine people would vote down mental screening of Soldiers - you are giving them automatic weapons, punishing physical training, and the lives of many soldiers depend upon one another. If they are going to 'break' under the pressure - measures must be taken to protect other soldiers from potentially unstable applicants. They could still joint the military, but get a desk job - not front line combat.

I don't believe this for a minute. I have been to Iraq twice, and have not even heard of a single person from either of my units commiting suicide. In fact, the highest reenlistment rates are from guys in country.

How empathetic people are. doing comparison of general public figures and say it is not that alarming for suicide or tendency among War Veterans? Serving and retired solders on average supposed to be above national education figures, they go through professional trainings and administrative procedures while in service. While general public has variety of reasons to lose own life, for vets the situations and reasons are countable and manageable. Not sure if a person who loses a limb or gets impaired in road accident is compensated better by insurance claims or a vet who suffers same injury ? ?? A solder who is working wounded should deserve better than a road accident, unfortunately (perhaps) there is cap on health benefit claims, if body damage claim is restricted for vets, it has to be filed on Dick Chenny to compensate for all deficit in medical and life maintenance expenditure.Pushing forces out for war was his desire, it had nothing to do with interest of sovereign United States.
