Raw materials have to be cleaned (water), quarried (manpower+energy). transported (gas, more manpower) and melted (some sort of energy). Your argument is moot if you don't provide a full life-cycle analysis. Unfortunately for you doing so would prove you wrong, as re-cycling is not only more energy efficient, but has an overall lower impact on the environment.

I'm from Oregon, but I live in San Diego and this city doesn't recycle s**t... must be Nor Cal that's doing all the work...
