thinkprogress.org — On the Senate floor today, Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) decried the recent amendment on Iran that 72 of his colleagues voted for, calling it an exercise in “international verbal spitball.” Byrd warned his colleagues against “sleep-walking” into another war, saying “I hope that we can stop this war of words before it becomes a war of bombs."

Considering the alternatives, I'd say he is the best.

What would he do for a KKK-londike bar?

Wonderful opinion, but he keeps getting elected. I respect anyone with that many years under their belt, especially when they continue to say such wise things. This guy has lived through and had a political stake in every military exercise we've engaged in since vietnam. I'll take experience over 'experts.'

karma is a bitch....i can't wait till you're old and instead of young people calling seniors senile and irrational they just turn them in to soylent green.no one can know whether he still harbors racist opinions except senator byrd, but i would surmise that if his voting record supported legislation that assisted African-Americans, then probably not. Of course, like i said, i can't know that. but it does prove that he at least tolerates them and believes in they're right to equal protection under the law and representation in our government. As South Park put it...."Tolerance doesn't mean you like someone, it means you put up with them."
