engadget.com — There's really never been a better time to jump into HD disc land. The format war isn't going anywhere anytime soon, the players are the cheapest yet, and there are free discs by the bucket-fulls just for signing up

Actually if the two formats keep having to up the ante. That's a win for the consumer. And a lose for them.

$210.93 for a HD-A2 at Amazon with 8 free movies.I don't know exactly how I got this deal, but when I added the AD-A2 with my three free movies from Amazon, there was an extra $27 discount in my shopping cart. I didn't wait around to find out why - I just bought it. It was close enough to my $200 price point that I figured why wait until Christmas to get a Walmart player when I can buy a Toshiba.

That's it, (Blu-Ray) is dead! (replace Blu-Ray with HD-DVD when the next article comes out)

Or you can just buy a Blu-Ray player...I picked up Weeds Season 2 today on Blu-Ray and it is f**king awesome, if there is any reason for the format war to be over and decided it is exclusives. Blu-Ray has the BEST exclusives such as Spider-Man and uh... EVERY Disney movie. So yeah I guess you can go and buy an HD-DUD player but just don't expect anything special.

Remind me it's dead when the average Joe starts buying them and sees HD-DVD players at half the price of Blu-Ray.

Two days later (8/30 - Thursday) the A20 model's sales rank is 43rd and the XA2's sales rank is 166th. Seems like the promo is having a positive impact on sales.Source: http://www.jangle.net/Electronics/DVD-Players/Most-Popular/Page-1/=Search/Save.aspx
