businessweek.com — "What Trinen, Nintendo's manager of localization, showed off at a Sept. 14 promo event in New York could end up transforming game-console technology. Nintendo execs say the feature, dubbed the Mii Channel, will let any user populate games with cartoonish 3-D versions of oneself, friends, film stars, or pro athletes. "

I've heard this idea from somewhere else:What if the Mii data was something that any game could choose to utilize, but developers could create a custom model set for their own game? For example, your Nintendo Mii on Wii sports has pointy brown hair and glasses and a blue shirt, and any game can do their own stylized version of that, from realistic to anime representation.

"I doubt any games, besides Wii sports, will even let you play as your "Mii".I don't see what the big deal is."Remmeber that time you RTFA and noticed that this claim is discounted directly in the article when it notes that WarioWare (admittedly a nintendo title) will use this feature?

Yes, a small amount of memory is embedded in the controller to store profile information.

Nothing is preventing the developers from using the media API used for the Wii's photo channel as far as I know so the point is moot.

I don't even own a television, and I'm tempted to buy one just so I can get a Wii too. It's the first console I've been excited about since the Megadrive (Genesis) in 1991, whem I was eleven!

I'm totally excited about Miis, too. I really hope that Nintendo allows third-parties to access the characters. I'm going to guess that the Miis are stored as textual data, i.e., "eyes=4; eyes_x=101.25; eyes_y=200; eyes_size=90;". If such a thing is true, it means that if you're, say, playing an anime game, the developers could code in custoom looks for the Mii, so that when your Mii shows up in-game, it is in the same style as the game itself. Or perhaps if you're playing somethinglike Metroid Prime, your Mii character will be custom-styled for that game. For instance, the type of hair you chose could dictate the helmt that the game would have your Mii wear.Unfortunately, if Nintendo doesn't provide the proper tools to do such a thing, the Mii channel may become a useless gimmick for Nintendo-made games only.

Cannot wait to see a Mii-self (?) goofing around in WarioWare.

can you play as that 2d picture of yourself? no?and who said the Wii couldnt import photos, infact I am pretty sure that it can handle photos aswell (if photos are usable in-game is another question). I think the really 'cool' thing about this is the fact that you could essentially use the Mii data to create more realistic type playable characters. Who said the Mii will always have the same Wii Sports style?it sure beats 10 opponents that look identical except for a label/pic/colour. now you can actually SEE what the other players want to look like.
