Those familiar with Arabs and their culture, realize that this is an insult of the highest magnitude. To us, it's just a size 10 shoe, to the Arabs, it shows that he is someone to respect less, if at all. Cultural misconceptions are one of the American leaders' Achilles heel, if you'll allow the mixed metaphor.

Free Market Systems don't work, they never have and people have been pointing this out since the 1800's. Its pretty straight forward why, if you know anything about economic theory you'll know that capitalism goes through a Boom Bust cycle and always has. When capitalism becomes increasingly deregulated corporations don't act in the interest of the country, but in the interest of profit, this has always resulted in a fast boom in the economy to a point where it reaches a peak, then it results in a big bust, which since the second world war has been averted through various drastic measures that were caught on early. There's an inherent flaw in the capitalist system thats caused by the inevitability of this happening (though the various degrees of which fluxuate) its always existed. If the government can't prevent big businesses from creating monopolies, when businesses have gotten too much power (like they do now, if you don't believe me walk to your downtown and count how many stores are chains and how many stores are locally owned) they seek to get cheaper labour and will outsource to another country, or hire illegal immigrants who will work for less, all at the expense of American Jobs. Giving a bailout to a company isn't just giving money for no reason, its to save jobs which People have. The fact that people are affected by free markets in such direct ways is quite astonishing if you look at it, its directly in front of you. Free Market systems have created a system of neo-colonialism that assures that wealth remains in the hands of very few. its no wonder 80% of the world's wealth is owned by 1/8 of the world population. Over 2 billion people live under 5$ a day, and its entirely due to these free trade systems that only benefit wealthy nations. This needs to change, and its long overdue.

The reason its _the_ example is because its the closest anything has ever gotten, and even then, its questionable if they didn't violate the rights of others. The fact that its _the_ example and the one everyone cites is an argument FOR my position.

DukeLeto, what exactly are you arguing for? More corporate socialism and bailouts or capital spending to shore up infrastructure and create jobs? I would vote for the latter as it places money in the hands of the people who are the real engine for the economy. Giving money to corporations that are poorly run in the first place will do nothing to increase consumer confidence while job creation and investment in the country will.I'm not a fan of strictly socialist parties or labour unions but I'm even less a fan of corporate socialism (fascism). Americans just cannot seem to learn from their mistakes. I'm no liberal but I think it is really childish the way Americans have demonized the word "liberal". To the people who use it as a derogatory term, I say "grow up".I also see that you completely ignored my suggestion that providing proper education and healthcare to everyone can lead to higher productivity in the workforce.
