thinkprogress.org — In a statement regarding new sanctions against Zimbabwe today, President Bush declares that “no regime should ignore the will of its own people“ Ironic, because the Bush administration proudly ignores public opinion in the United States.

I just find it silly when people complain about there being too many news stories about anything. Its not like TV where you have to sit through things you don't care about and only a limited number of stores can be reported.

Yeah, maybe Bush himself should try that.

You're missing three points to my comment:1) The difference between the will of the people and public opinion is akin to the difference of potential and kinetic energy. One has the force of action while the other is impotent in and of itself. If public opinion becomes law, then the force of the Constitution makes it the will of the people. Ignoring that is a grave injustice. Public opinion has the same force when there's a persistent and unified voice by a majority of constituents.2) The article description unconditionally equates the will of the people with public opinion. Sure, some won't be able to make the distinction between the two, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Perhaps phraseology is the issue here, but in this day and age, it matters, and it is on those merits that I opine. Feel free to disagree, but I'm not one to simply go along with what I think a person might have meant to say or with some implied understanding in rhetorical discourse. Say what you mean, and be clear about it.3) Nothing President Bush does would garner him any real credit in the minds of many, and at this point, anything he says or does will be attacked by those so far gone with their dislike of him. It's truly amusing the reactions you can garner when commenting on this undercurrent in political discussion. Such passion .. such fire! I look forward to future replies: I'll be sure to read them when I need a good laugh =)

in the above- "le a joke be a joke" should be "LET a joke be a joke." Small incident with girlfriend and new blinds being hung during "edit time." I may think you are retarded- but you deserve that much. Now you'll probably scream at me about how I've never helped retards and I don't know what it's like to sleep next to the abominable whatever...

You are assigning a noble cause to a criminal act. They are ruining the banking system, but it's not to go back to a real standard, it's to line their pockets.

Nope, still 12.If, in 1999, you predict something will happen within 20 years, you predict it will happen before the end of 2019. Thus, when the calender rolls over to 2020, if it hasn't happened, your prediction has failed. Now, if you want to get nitpicky, it's 11 years, 5 months and 3 days now to 2020, not 12 years...but since this *is* nitpicking and irrelevant to both the article and the prediction, I just rounded up.

delriaan,We live in a democracy. Apparently you went to a public school and don't know what a democracy really is.72% is a majority, and in a democracy, the majority rules.I can tell that you are happy with the way 28% choose to vote, but that doesn't make it the will of the people. It makes it the will of less than a third of the population, closer to only a quarter.
