reuters.com — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush would like to see a lengthy U.S. troop presence in Iraq like the one in South Korea to provide stability but not in a frontline combat role, the White House said on Wednesday. The United States has had thousands of U.S. troops in South Korea to guard against a North Korean invasion for 50 years.

I guess our significant military presence in Japan for forty years after we dropped the a-bombs was disgusting too eh? You know, because establishing a nice little democracy there and helping it form one of the most successful economic developments in the world is really tragic. Damn Honda and Toyota for making good vehicles and providing many Americans for good jobs. Their fuel efficient cars, not to mention their advanced green tech, sure are a major scourge to the world. War is hell. It's a well known fact(figure of speech, I am well aware it's not a fact by definition), and hell is eternity. I'm not looking to justify the war here, but this was inevitable from the moment Congress sent us to war. The only thing we can hope for is that Iraq turns out to be as successful as Japan. *shrug*

And how does the President plan to pay for all of this? We already have to borrow tons of money from China to keep the war going now!! There doesn't seem to be much point in waging wars all over the world to "protect ourselves" if we have to be at the mercy of an openly hostile nation with nukes and a 2-million strong army to do so!

Yes, let elect someone like Bill who got up in the morning , raised his finger in the air to judge the direction of the political wind and then allow himself to go that direction. Hillary could get up in the morning and ask, " I wonder what the rest of the world thinks about us. That is the essential question of my being, for I like Bill so much want to be loved by the world. If the world doesn't like it, I cannot do it, whatever it is". Maybe she could get some pointers from Hugo...or better yet, let Hugo rule. Danny Glover for Vice President also sounds good. What a love fest it would be.I love ending a sentence with prepositions.

Actuall peak oil was a fraud created by the oil companies to jack up the price of gasoline and create artificial scarcity. They never wanted any oil from Iraq they wanted to shut off the flow of oil from Iraq. This is also one of the many reason they are now getting ready to invade Iran. You can read the oil company memos where they admit all this by going herehttp://www.consumerwatchdog.org/pr/?postId=5110

If your expecting the democrats to save you don't hold your breath. They're all bought and paid for by the same people who control the Republicans. The only person who will end the war is Ron Paul. Aside from that it will probably take a full blown violent revolution to end the war and stop Bush or his successor from becoming a full blown dictator.

I think we should pass a law that requires any politician who votes for war to fight on the front lines when the war starts. That includes the president. That way they wouldn't start needless wars like this anymore. Furthermore we should disband the U.S. army and Marines but leave the Air Force and Navy intact for defensive purposes. Then make automatic weapons easily available to the American people so we can defend ourselve if we are ever attacked(especially if we are attacked by our own government) Without a standing army we would be unable to launch crimminal wars of agression against other nations and endlessly occupy them. This is not a radical idea. This idea was suggested by Americas founding fathers and I have to say I agree with it.

did someone say "Military Industrial Complex"?the us bases are already there its no surprise when they have already sold off Iraq oil that they are being paid by the petrol companies to protect their investment. President Bush asks what's our OIL doing under their sand? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWiLshk6fSU 30/10/2000 Iraq changes form $ to euro?s for oil sales (axis of evil 1)2001 Iran switch form $ to euro?s for oil sales (axis of evil 2)7/12/2002 North Korea switches all trading from the $ to euro?s, not just oil. (axis of evil 3) Hugo Chavez Venezuela held chairmanship of Opec & puts on the table for all petroleum sales to be Switched from $ to euro would collapse the $ so America turns to anti propaganda towards Venezuela to oust a democratically elected leader!http://www.thedossier.ukonline.co.uk/

As bad as this may seem to you, a Military presence in Iraq has been established in Iraq, Bases have been constructed, now if you look on a map, the U.S. has a strategical defense point for every continent in the world. You really need to do some research and realize that throwing that away and packing our bags up to come home would just not happen, not really under a Democrat president...Compared to all other wars to gain an unspoken outcome as such, thee have never been so few casualties. Oh, and in response to the person who said who it i attacking us, CRAZY BRAINWASHED MEN WHO WOULD SLIT YOUR THROAT FOR CALLING THEIR FAMILY NAME SOMETHING ELSE. The suicide bombers have been brain washed since child birth. The common civilian in Baghdad understands whats happening, does not protest the war, and encourages the support for a new Democratic government, in return, we get another strategic military base. With Iraq's Oil supply, there Economy will easily grow large in size. I have seen Iraq for what it is with my own eyes, which ironically, is nothing what I thought it would be after watching 60 minutes every Sunday Along with CNN in the evenings. I don't care for anyones opinions that haven't seen it for themselves other than the view they get from their living room couch, Republican or Democrat.
