nytimes.com— Animal welfare advocates called the chain’s shift to more humane egg and meat production a “historic advance.”

I'd rather eat meat, cheese, and drink milk than be a vegetarian and have to take supplements for all the things my body needs that I DON'T get from vegetables.
I'm all for preventing cruelty to animals, I just wish companies like Burger King would require something that actually does something. The reason sows are kept in cages is because when they're free to move around they lay down and crush their piglets to death. A lot. So now we're going to make them a bit happier but end up killing a crapload more baby pigs, awesome. And laying chickens outside of cages? Now they'll be constantly fighting (not called a pecking order for no reason) and killing each other. Not to mention the economic issues. You'll have to send in workers to collect the eggs, the chickens will probably break their eggs more often. And come on now, a chicken's brain is smaller than their eye, they fall asleep if you tuck their head under their wing, they don't really give a crap about living in a cage. A chicken in pain isn't going to produce very well for you, so the majority of producers are going to do what it takes to keep them healthy.
This story is a joke right? Would a corporation do something this stupid? Who gives a s**t how a chicken that is born and raised for one reason only, to be eaten, is killed? f**king hippies!
What Burger King did is good except for doing so because of PETA. PETA is a domestic terrorist group that really doesn't care that the animals are treated humanely before slaughter for human consumption. PETA doesn't want people to have pets or use animals in ANY way. They are animal religionists that believe in things like 'an ant is a boy is an ant is a boy'.BK is legitamizing a fundamentally illegitimate organization from a humanist perspective. BK will no longer receive any business from me only because of this association with PETA.

The Colonel could kick all of their asses. I'm sure he has some secret blend of herbs and explosives, too. You'd never even see him coming!

Just don't eat meat. The fact is you don't need meat if you eat proper fruit and vegetables.

BS - pecking and fighting is a condition seen most often inside of cages, not out of them.
