Some of the core components have dropped in price a bit. I think the total price would be below $1k or so. I can get away with what i have in my existing computer, but this is an interesting read and worth investigating.
eh, its too much work for me :) but at least there is an alternative. I wish more TV tuner chipsets were supported--but then again I have a ATI TV tuner!
They failed the clue test when they picked a P4 CPU. Yeah, I want a high-wattage CPU with no power management in a PC that's going to run 24x7 and spend most of its time idling. A late-model P3 would work well though. If you're going to display HDTV go straight to an Athlon 64 3500+ or so. I finally finished this project after putting it off for the longest time. I have to say that I enjoyed doing it, but I don't think mine is too efficient. I'm going to have to try building another one and streamline it a bit.http://clubpenguintips.com

I dugg it, but it is an interesting read, but they overcomplicate and overspend on theirs as opposed to Systms videocast.

Its not as difficult or expensive as one might think. I've cobbled mine together from spare parts and have been most pleased.

It seems Linux still has a long way to go in getting the average user into Linuxland...
