edition.cnn.com— Adults who saw them being chased by the swarm locked them out of a room to prevent getting stung themselves, news reports said Monday.

Let's see, would you rather:a) Get stung by several wasps and save the lives of two children, live the rest of your life remembering your heroic decision.b) Avoid getting stung by wasps, stand there and watch two children be killed, live with your cowardly decision the rest of your life.
Two adults dieing from wasp stings because the children locked them out after seeing they were chased by a swarm WOULD be news. The fact that they were children just is gravy to the story. The heart string tug, if you will.I am horrified that adults could do this. I could never!
I can't believe some of the comments in this thread. I can't even do a "@" for one particular person. How can someone, unless completely retarded (which even then they may try to help out), watch as some kids get stung repeatedly by a group of angry wasps! And from the story it sounds like nobody even went as far as to try to throw some water or something on the kids to get the wasps to go away or at least distract them. It is selfish crap like this that is the root of the problems that we have in the world today. And while I detest stinging insects and have done everything possible in my life since being stung in my early teens to avoid being stung again, I would still have to let someone in that was being chased by a swarm of wasp (or bees, or hornets). Even though I would know that some would get in that would have to be dealt with. I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror knowing that I locked someone out of a place where they could have escaped a worst attack if they survived. If they died because of a result of me trying to save myself from a couple of stings I wouldn't be able to live with myself. This is absolutely sick and disgusting. And I don't think that "this is what we've become". I instead think that we as humans haven't yet moved on to thinking about anyone else on the planet other then ourselves.
Personally, I think these adults suck ass. HOWEVER, our belief that children come first is just one of several evolutionary survival strategies. Other cultures, indeed other species, choose to protect the adults so they may go on to reproduce, as they represent a larger investment of time and resources, while children, left alone, are less likely to survive. What they did was morally reprehensible, yes, but not impossible to understand. In fact, they may have had many more children of their own to worry about. Of course, if these were their own children, we should give them Darwin awards for removing their genes from the pool.
so many horrible stories lately, about evil and twisted people. digg is great but I guess it allows me to see too much about the world. what was it that marilyn manson was quoted as saying.... "there isn't more evil in the world, we hear about it more because it's televised."I'm not saying stop with depressing stories... just sad to hear about all this... evil. almost numbing.
