I watched the American one first, and then the British version. I actually found the american version made me cringe more than the British version. In the American version, the other characters play up the fact that they are uncomfortable much more than the British version, where although they are uncomfortable they are more polite about it. I have a feeling Michael Scott's antics immunized me to David Brent, who seemed almost 'normal' in comparison.I think those cringe moments are exactly what makes the office comical, and I found myself liking the American version quite a bit more. I thought the British version was enjoyable, but I didn't find it quite as funny.
In the British version, Ricky's boss was promoted and was replaced by the manager of the other branch (that got downsized) -who Ricky was always trying to be in competition with. If they follow that storyline in the US version, I'd expect Ricky Gervais or Martin Freeman to play Steve Carells boss
