blog.wired.com — Affordable eco-conscious sports cars are coming, and soon. The Honda CR-Z hybrid, the Volkswagen BlueSport Roadster and the Toyota MR2 hybrid are poised to prove sports cars can be environmentally responsible and reasonably priced.

Wish I could digg you up further. Sports cars are Lotus 7, Austin Healeys, Bug Eye Sprites, Mr2 (first gen mostly), Miatas, etc. These cars are more about handling, finesse, light-weight and limited features. They're totally not about the horsepower.Mustangs, Camaro's, Corvettes, etc are more GT cars. There is a distinction. Some cars do blur that distinction a bit, but there are usually distinctive differences between the types.

I don't understand why nobody has made a tiny hybrid coupe or hatchback yet. Can't wait for the CR-Z. I'll definitely pick one up for a daily driver and keep my supercharged S2000 for special occasions.

Diesel Engines cost much more because they have more expensive components. The engine blocks have to be much stronger because cylinder pressures are much more extreme.Diesels run at a compression ratio of about 25:1 while gasoline engines only run at roughly 8 or 9:1Cylinder pressures in diesels run at about 25,000 PSI.Fuel pressures in diesels run at about 30,000 PSI. Expect to pay $1000+ just for a fuel pump!

Change sports car to muscle car and I'll agree with you.

Yep, looks ok. Although I personally prefer the look of the new Lotus Elise which is actually really fuel efficient and has the lowest C02 emissions for performance of any sports car in the world! (Under the 150g/km so it fits into the lower UK fuel tax bracket). I'm still not convinced by hybrids coz of all the talk about how it's really damaging to the enivronment to produce the nickel batteries in the first place - would rather go for a fuel efficient petrol for the time being. http://www.free-press-release.com/news-an-eco-supe ... Don't be deluded by the hybrid ideal - it's not that green!
