yeah, i have a strong IQ, and i was bottle-fed. (maybe i'd be an award-winning famous billionaire by now if mom had only breastfed, and i do have allergies...) but i plan to breastfeed my kids (if possible), just in case.
LOL. I forgot all about this thread, and caught it just in time. I knew if I put a softball up on a Tee, Digg users would take a swing!I vote "nipples on your hand" as the best of the lot...
Actually, it does provide ample protection against allergies, illnesses, and disease. The following resources are specific to the effect on allergies:Halken S, Host A, Hansen LG, Osterballe O. Effect of an allergy prevention programme on incidence of atopic symptoms in infancy. A prospective study of 159 "high-risk" infants. Allergy 1992 Oct;47(5):545-53.Hanson LA, Korotkova M, Telemo E. Breast-feeding, infant formulas, and the immune system. Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2003 Jun;90(6 Suppl 3):59-63.Marini A, Agosti M, Motta G, Mosca F. Effects of a dietary and environmental prevention programme on the incidence of allergic symptoms in high atopic risk infants: three years' followup. Acta P?diatr 1996;Suppl 414 vol 85:1-19.Saarinen UM, Kajosaari M. Breastfeeding as prophylaxis against atopic disease: prospective follow-up study until 17 years old. I was adamant about breastfeeding my three children until they were each one years old. I could have fed the entire block! I wholeheartedly believe this raises a child's IQ level. It saddens me to find so few women today avoiding this important step. My babies never went to the doctor except for their regular shot updates.
I love my experience breastfeeding - and I'm working on 18 months with my DD! I breastfed, as well as many of my friends did. There are, in fact, some pretty meaningful breastfeeding conversations at www.unmommy.com. It's wonderful how beneficial such a simple act is!
