aaaagreed... people act like hes so high and mighty and all they know of him is what they see on diggnation.... they get into this pack-like mentality that they are being unique by accepting the first icon associated with their fad.. when in-fact its just a sad case of people trying to find some shred of individuality by following/idolizing him.
That's nice. Obviously an idiosyncratic difference in the linguistics between our two dialects must have to do with American Greed. You are such a joke.
Dugg you up for intelligent discussion... could've easily been "Bono is a fag"...OK, again, I am not speaking from the perspective of a U2 fanboy and asserting that they're definitely the second-biggest band ever. Like I said, that point is debatable, and Pink Floyd (and others) may very well be ahead of U2.The only position I'm defending here is that U2 has been the biggest band in the world for over 20 years now (roughly Joshua Tree-present), and that's never been done before. I agree that "biggest band in the world" is a nebulous concept--but under most logical definitions of it, Pink Floyd did not satisfy the criteria for more than two decades. Pink Floyd has some amazing accomplishments to its credit, but that's not one of them.Perhaps you find "biggest band in the world" to be irrelevant or trivial, and I can see that point of view. But personally, I'm compelled to respect any band that can hold that title for such a length of time. Almost nothing in pop culture maintains its status for that long.As far as your assessment of U2 and Christianity, U2 is not a Christian band. Sure, some (but not all) of its members are Christian, but that's true of most bands in the Western world. And is the majority of U2's fanbase Christian? Probably so, but again that's true of most fanbases. Incidentally, I'm an atheist. To tackle your last paragraph: does U2 have more screaming fans than The Rolling Stones? No. A more persistent fanbase than The Grateful Dead? Nope. More artistic relevance than Radiohead? Probably not. But "biggest band in the world" is not based on just one narrow criterion; it's a matrix of many. If you take the cumulative sum of all criteria, U2 is the biggest band in the world and has been for longer than anyone else before them. That's all I'm sayin'.
