consumerist.com— Cingular customers may have noticed the cellphone provider changing its text message rates from $.10 to $.15 and realize they can use that to escape contract without early termination fee.

Maybe we did, and we signed up knowing that text messages were free incoming and 10 cents out. Now it a NEW contract and we don't feel like signing up for this one.
I believe phone insurance is well worth it. I put a nail through the screen from my roofing days (thank goodness not through my leg). Replaced it (and actually received a better newer phone) for $50 bucks. Now I bought a blackberry 8700c for work and you bet my ass I will keep the insurance on it. I don't want to pay $499 dollars for a new one if I brake that one too.Plus if you do something that brakes the phone that is not covered under insurance, just say it was stolen.
@pkulak:Couldn't agree with you more. This is, in part, why I am a big fan of Cingular's push for UMTS/HSDPA service. From a former TDMA and GSM user, I did notice substantially less cross talk in a variety of markets using CDMA for voice, but I definitely agree with you.@JustinGN:The vast majority of wireless customers do little-to-no travelling outside of their market, let alone outside of their country. I agree 100% that using an international standard (like GSM or UMTS) for wireless service is vastly preferable. I have a CDMA carrier now and will be switching to a GSM carrier once my contract is up and love the flexibility of GSM service, but I also realize that comparatively speaking, I am in the relative minority of users who want international service, high speed data transmission, with unlockable phones. I am all for GSM service, but see why Code Division is a viable solution for some.
This is exactly what they just tried to pull. They said the terms refer to stuff you subscribe to, which is your main plan, while Text is optional. After a couple managers, they slowly got the point that texting is not optional, it is a part of the whole contract.
i just canceled mines, took 5 minutes. here the exact procedure:DO NOT CANCEL STRAIGHT AWAY! Talk to the customer rep and ask him/her to put a not on the account that you can cancel without a termination fee! If there is a problem please ask them to refer to page 6 of the PDF file (terms of service) that OP has sent us a link to. If the customer rep wants to see the file here is how to get there: www.cingular.com >>> click on support >>> at the right side there is a "Terms of Servic" link (this is the PDF file). There will be no problems in accomplising this! Then go to the new service provider and port the numbers. Porting means getting your phone numbers from old service to new service. This is pretty simple!
I need to switch from cingular to t-mobile because t-mobile gets service where im at but cingular dont, i have to tell them something so i can switch without paying that high termination fee.
Yea me to they are sorry, they dont have any good phones, & no good plans. They are the only ones not getting anything new, like t-mobile got the my faves thing and i like that and when i do find a way to switch to t-mobile without paying i am going to get the sidekick 3. I have cingular to.
