Because everyone has 2 TBs of content and 2TBs of storage on their computer. Even HD would take a little while to fill that up.

Apple would sell more AppleTV's if they included this functionality to begin with. I have a Macbook so being able to keep my entire collection of TV shows and movies digitally on a AppleTV would be killer.
