Bram is NOT a sellout, but he's still wrong on this one. People CAN be wrong on occasion and still have my respect. Not one of us is perfect.

"""""""""You seem to be advocating a socialist structure where everyone pays regardless of usage. Why should someone who only checks his e-mail pay EXTRA for a company that streams HDTV 24/7? The lack of basic economics knowledge in the replies to my post amaze me, even for Digg readers. It's common sense that as the internet grows someone will have to pay for it - you guys make it sound like you honestly think that they will be free unless we go to a tiered internet."""""""""Yeah, ATT and other providers are really hurting financially, give me a break. This is all about greed and nothing more. The lack of basic internet knowledge in some of these replies amaze me, even for Digg readers.

The first mass peer to peer system? Fundamentally changed the music industry as a teenage hacker in his garage? I'd call Fanning a luminary (in fact I did already)

Bram Cohen is 100% correct. Despite what the uninformed and ignorant masses think, a tier Internet is good for consumers.

Bshock I think you've unfairly caricatured me here.Bram's contribution was not negligable. If you had read the link at the top you'd also see extended audio of the interview is available on iTunes for download. The reason the comments were at the bottom of the piece was because they needed so much background explananation first in order to make sense to non techie readers. To say that having Asperger's somehow means that someone's comments are less sensible is absurd and unfair.I don't insist that big capital's will must be done. I'm merely characterising the argument (fairly I hope.) Nor is it the last comment in the article.

I absolutely agree with genghis. the internet will not get better without investment, and taxpayers will not foot the bill again. However, I abhor the possibility of censorship and restricted content. Fortunately, the considerations in the bill don't apply to existing internet use, only future 'internet 2' style use.I also have an opinion on the philanthropic mindset which some anti-megacapitalists or perhaps socialist-capitalist hybridists have expelled. I frown on the possibility of a gun forcing me to do anything. I at heart am generous and help people to whom I am close and have no way of helping themselves. I understand that poverty is a vicious cycle and have personally been through it having been forcibly ejected from my home at 16 with nowhere to turn. It was a long process, self education is very bizarre looking back on it, but I now live very well... through hard work. Perhaps I could be called lucky, but it's absolutely overcomable in this country and not too difficult. The issue with the 'cyclic' nature of poverty it is the people who are 'stuck' could be called clinically insane. Expecting a different result without changing the process to achieve a desired result is completely insane. Or they could be quitters or have myraid of other unsavory traits and/or habits. I believe people who ask for help if deserving, will recieve it. There is no fundamental human law mandating that all humans must contribute to the welfare of other humans. If people would get out of their self imposed boxes of 'i cant so please help me' then all of the socialistic principles would be unnecessary.I tried the socialist thinking for some time. It proved to be a black hole. Obviously our hybrid style is working better, and I think removing the chains and supports on all the various aspects of our society would have it working better still. Love the quote about the 1/2 percent income tax, my lord would that be liberating in and of itself.has the internet 2 been killed as a nomenclature, is this neutrality we speak of pertaining to exactly that? haven't heard much about that lately.fun read of short sighted megaflames all.tom
