moscowtimes.ru — Less than three weeks before a feature film about Borat, a character created by English comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, was to open in Russian movie theaters, the Federal Culture and Cinematography Agency refused to license it out of concern that the film could offend audiences in this country.

Borat is not offensive to Russians themselves.I think the ridicule of Uzbeks and Kazakhs and Jews and such in the movie could further stimulate nationalist, russophile sentiments that are popular these days among young Russians.

Umm... There is ALOT of ripping on Jewish people. It's not just about Kazakhstan...

Whoa! Wipe away the foam from your mouth. I explicitly generalized my comment to avoid the kind of replies this is getting.Say what you will about the US, but at least give it credit for being by and large a country that honors freedom of speech and expression more than most. Even though we have to fight for it sometimes. But please let the Janet Jackson thing go, it's almost 2007, there are better things to be bitter about. And of all the censorship examples you have access to, that was a fairly petty one to bring up.

Not like children, more like mind slaves. People will believe what you tell them they beleive...for example, every time we hear on tv "80% of people approve of this new tax" .......

I'm russian and found it hilarious, and what's this "gay 69 scene"? you've never expelled gas out of your ass while hovering over a friends face, or sleeping brother. There is nothing! gay about it, yes they were naked, but so what. The move had an R rating, are there people over seventeen so brainwashed that two guys wrestling is instantly a gay scene? I mean C'mon people! They are not performing fellatio or pleasuring each other. And if it was meant to be gay, then so f**king what, you'd think people would get used to it. But I really, really, really think it wasn't.
