I don't have a problem with this or even find it offensive. It's just more efficient to only pay attention to people that can raise your status in life. Why would I care what a poor person thinks? How will that help me in life?
Not true... the nuveau riche tend to be among the most obnoxious people around. Old money tends not to be as impressed with itself. But then these are all generalizations.
