nytimes.com — Rep. Bob Ney is headed to prison early next year after pleading guilty to charges of accepting tens of thousands of dollars in illegal gifts from lobbyists. Until then, Mr. Ney has a comfortable place to bide his time. His Congressional office ? the one that he has effectively acknowledged selling to the highest bidder ? is still open for business.

Given how often the GOP and their religious supporters constantly tout how morally superior to everyone on the planet they are, this is "surprising" (I'm sure you right wing idiots won't be able to understand sarcasm, given you have to have the faculty of the front part of the brain to do so, and as we all know, none of you have a brain to speak of). f**king hypocrites.

LOL, that's the first thing I thought of too. What is Bill Ney the science guy doing at the capitol?

"It ain't the (R) the next to his name that makes a politician corrupt, its the fact he is a politician, they are ALL corrupt. The sooner you all realize the Dems are equally as bad, the sooner we can get a third party elected and get some s**t done."Dems can be corrupt too (hell, it *is* Louisiana). But no, they are not 'equally as bad' at this point in time.I'm all for 3rd parties, of course. I just hate the 'dems are just as bad' line that simply isn't true.

xGORDOx wrote: "The sooner you all realize the Dems are equally as bad, the sooner we can get a third party elected and get some s**t done."You mean, a third party would be less corrupt than the existing two? That's incredibly naive. What makes politicians corrupt is three things: power, arrogance, and money. The GOP, being the party of big business, has all three in spades. Dems can be just as corrupt, but tend to get their money in smaller doses (more from individuals), so that limits things a bit. Also, they're slightly less self-serving, IMO, even the rich ones. A third party, in the current climate, would be just as bad as the Dems at least, once they got power. The ONLY solution to the problem of money in politics is to REMOVE money from politics. It seems to me that we lose more money due to bad policy than it would cost to fund every federal campaign and have Congress work for us for a change.

"Ney is going to jail, but Jefferson hasn't even been criticized by his own party."---kylesellersOn May 24, 2006, Pelosi asked Jefferson to resign....In June, he was ousted from the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.....and now he has NOT been given the endorsement from his OWN party in his OWN state of Louisiana....Do I have to correct you idiots, or can you grow the hell up, do your OWN f**king research, and stop but but buttin' your way through life?(Btw...Hastert also backed Jefferson on the search..) Grow up...

It sickening that Congress won't even attempt to maintain the appearance of propriety. Yet another reason to vote next month.

Both parties have the potential to be corrupt. However it's more likely that at this point, when the Republicans are in control of 3 branches of government that they have more opportunities to be corrupt. It's also true that the current congress is quite possibly the most corrupt congress that we've had in over 100 years. I think you have to go back to the McKinley administration to find a congress as corrupt as this one.And just as it's wrong to say that one party is less likely to be corrupt than the other, it's also wrong to say that ALL politicians are corrupt. It's just not true. It may seem that way sometimes but it's not. And if you're congressman is corrupt what are YOU doing about it?
