The Democrats and Republicans are the same party - who does not get that???!!! It does not matter so much which "party" gets elected, so long as one of them does. In my opinion, the GOP's current fascination with the religious evangelical nuts are a much greater threat to America than the Democrats socialism. but I think an Obama presidency bodes well for a quick backlash. With McCain, gov't policy might limp along at a level just barely tolerable to the public, but with the demo executive and legislative branches, policy will lean further to the left a lot quicker, and when it fails it will (hopefully) make people reconsider.

Luckily, you don't have to choose between capitalism and socialism. By the way, the farmer's market analogy is not entirely accurate, as farmers receive all sorts of aid. So the price being paid is already subsidised. I'm not questioning that aid, just pointing out that like other industries, agriculture receives grants and public support.
