boston.com — She already has a doctorate from Harvard. Now, after five years of medical training, all that stands between Sophie Currier of Brookline and an elite, double-barreled MD-Ph D is a daylong exam and her commitment to breast - feeding her infant daughter. But officials won't let her pump her breasts during the nine hour test. Yikes, what do you think?

It is unfair and pretty dangerous to her health. The should let her do it without question. I just hope there's no women on the pannel who decided she couldn't do it.

I'm guessing that you have never had a child, nor been with anyone who has just had a child. Firstly, it takes at least 25 mins to pump and this has to be done, at maximum, every 3 hours. The 45 minutes worth of break time are not going to be sufficient to perform the job considering she is also going to have to find the time to eat and use the bathroom. On top of that, it is hardly fair to the woman, or the other students if she is going to have to pump while in the examination room. Not only is she not going to have any privacy, but also those pumps are loud and will be distracting to others sitting the exam. You obviously also don't realize that, unless breasts are pumped on a regular basis, the woman not only experiences a lot of pain but her milk also leaks out. That would be highly embarrassing for her.The fact is, dude, that she should not have to "deal with it". If a man had to take time out to "milk" himself on a regular basis for medical reasons, you can bet your ass he would not only have a private room to do it in, but also a good few long breaks.

Can she not give her child formula for even part of one single day? Can she not just pump some extra over the course of a few days and refrigerate it? Does it really take more than 45 minutes to pump breast milk? Nine hours boob-free is not really gonna do that kid any harm. I'm sure a medical exemption would be made if it posed any health risk whatsoever. But hey, why suffer a slight inconvenience when you can sue right?

They're giving her an a private room in which to pump her breast milk and she really should have thought of this before she got pregnant. Why would you get pregnant when you know you have a nine hour test coming up? A little planning would have saved a lot of grief. It's not like she's the first nursing mother to take this test she's just the only one who won't stop bitching about it.
