pssh. let me know how that laser disc player is working out for you. How much value is there for a player that no media is being produced for? Sure you can watch your movies you've already purchased on that player. But that player will also stop being manufactured and when that player breaks all those movies are now worthless.
Warner is doing that. Total HD or some such s**t. It's 2-layer HD-DVD on one side and 1-layer Blu-ray on the other. It pisses the audio/videophiles off because the 1-layer Blu-ray isn't enough to hold all the nice extras blu-ray can normally hold like lossless audio.I am personally against appeasement. I want the format war to end decisively and quickly.
This thing is close to what I am waiting for. I currently have the HD drive for my 360 and would like to buy BluRay discs too but there is a significant problem. Region coding. HD-DVDs are not region coded and I can buy them from the US without any problem but this is not the case for BD. The price of BD movies is simply staggering compared to their HD-DVD equivalents and when compared to the price I can get US imports for the difference is massive (100% more expensive) so for the moment I'll pass. What I do want is a player which covers both formats and which is also region free so I can buy US discs just as I do for DVD and HD-DVD. I'm sure someone will mod this player to be region free at which point it will be a good option.
It's amazing how expensive these players are. They should be paying *us* to get them in our homes so we can shell out for the overpriced* discs (where the real profit is made).* (I mean, seriously, $34.99 for the BluRay Disney's The Haunted Mansion, starring Eddie Murphey??)
If Blu Ray wins what will happen to High Def DVD pron? In fact, cannot a case be made that like porn fueled the success of VHS, will it not be the killer app for Hi Def DVD?

"I'm positive that this will either end the war, prolong it, or do nothing at all to it."That helped
