biz.gamedaily.com — Sony doesn't have enough blue laser diodes, so it is suspending shipments in order to use the remaining stock in what is claimed to be 4 million PS3s. HD DVD, which uses the same blue laser diodes, isn't faring any better. Don't expect to see many players this holiday season, because the PS3 and Xbox 360 is getting first priority.

so the new way to get people to buy the PS3 will make sure they are the only bluray player on the market? And selling out all their partners? god if I have alot of money and had a choice to back sony or any other company it would not be sony.

if some people just replaced their vhs players, then those AREN'T the people blu-ray is going after, infact, tell your grandma we're proud of her.Blu-ray is after those who bought DVD players, then HDTV's then upscaling DVD players, then higher def TV's, now its time for Blu-ray to fit that fully 1080p tv!

Reply to: oGMo Uhmmm you do know that it is cheaper to buy HDDs for backup purposes than Blue Ray disks now a days? I hereby declare your argument very mid 1990's and thus not not applicable. Seriously though, individual HDDs are a much better back up solution than blue ray could ever hope to be. Plus any serious backup solution will use tape.

tired of the bickering. Blue-Ray = betamax and it looks like both formats are going to fail.

@plnegative1:"It's going to take at least 10 years for the HD format to become standard. "Any by then, we'll be getting HD contect over broadband instead of physical media and no one will need the fancy blue LEDs anymore.

oGMo: A smart businessman would short the PS3, knowing the market acceptance is questionable... better to have shortages and hype of overinflated ebay prices then to have them sitting on the shelves. The other players are not loss-leaders.Shorting production of the PS3 for the other blu-ray players is a pretty good idea if they are not 100% sure the PS3 will be a home run AND that they can meet the demand.
