nypost.com — The NYPD first found out about Plaxico Burress' bone-headed accidental self-shooting with an illegal handgun by watching television reports more than 12 hours after it happened, Mayor Bloomberg revealed this morning during a scathing press conference following a front-page story in The Post about the cover up effort.

The real question is whether it was his gun or not. It could have been a friends gun or even a bodyguards gun and he was just playing around with it. Stupid yes, illegal? That's another question.

@TheOneKenBurress doesn't belong to "a well regulated militia". Also, the US Constitution prevents the FEDERAL gov't from infringing on arms possession. The US Constitution conveys no such restriction upon state or local gov't to infringe on arms.

I don't think the question is ever that. Yeah, I'm sure that sometimes a celebrity gets a tough sentence to send a message, but most often the only message I see is "celebrities aren't subject to the same legal system as you and I." Most of what I see is celebrities getting off too easily.

The Giants would like to thank the Saints for their 2nd and 5th round picks next year (and if Vilma is re-signed and plays 85% of the defensive snaps this season, that 2nd turns to a 1st. Trade up and get Crabtree, forget Burress). Thus far, Kevin Boss has similar yards to Shockey, and also 5 TDs to Shockeys 0. Also Shockey has lost 2 fumbles to Boss' 0.

Why is this even a question? He broke the law, and this particular law is very specific about the punishments. If this nation wants to have any hope of long-term survival, his fame and fortune cannot factor into the justice that applies to him -- either in his favor or against it.Whether or not you think the law is just is an entirely different matter. I, for one, have never interpreted the second amendment as limiting the rights of states to legislate the ownership and use of firearms for non-military purposes.

I'd say that in recent years its been quite the opposite. People often bring up the case of Paris Hilton being in jail to prove that point. What they seem to forget is that, due to overcrowding, most sentences are cut shorter over there. Following this guideline and treating her normally, they released her early. No special treatment there. Btu then the judge threw a fit about how it didn't send the right message and how he sentenced her to more time, so the police went and rearrested her and threw her back in jail. At this point she was being treated unfairly because she was a celebrity. Now I know that is just one case, but I can't think of any recent cases where the celebrity has been treated better by the legal system.

Where does it say that he dropped the gun?
