newscientist.com — Yes, the title is melodramatic, but researchers say newly found enzymes can remove A and B antigens from blood, converting it to type O, which can be transfused to anyone safely. This could be a major breakthrough in the blood supply!

@cbtf (#5965198)What if you're a hermaphrodite Canadian who's traveled to the UK to eat gay beef?

Last time I donated blood it was a double red type donation where they take the blood run it through some sort of centrifuge device to extract just the red cells and then pump the plasma and platelets and white cells back into me. I hadn't heard of this until recently but apparently this way they can get twice the red blood cells which is where the blood type problem comes in and then later just add plasma before transfusing it into someone.

I've done that 3 times now....feels weird when the blood is pumped back into your arm

well especially considering the article doesn't talk about it at all, the title is especially dumb. There is no blood shortage, hasn't been one for years. yeah you should keep donating blood, but they pretty much have plenty for a while.

On a quick first read I saw this as "blog shortage" and my brain went into WTF mode instantly.

@AnteChronosOkay, I stand corrected. That's pretty significant.@roastnewt1"p.s., it's having sex with men (the high risk activity) that gets you banned, not just being gay."Good point.

wow that is really great news...there is a major shortage of blood predicted for this summer (summer is ALWAYS the least donated time of year) ...so if you get a chance find a place to donate at: http://bloodbanker.com/banks
